Alocasia is a genus of about 70 species that naturally occurs in tropical regions of Asia, mainly in Malay Archipelago. In Europe Alocasia is grown as greenhouse or indoor plant for its beautiful, glossy heart-shaped leaves. It requires high humidity and temperatures close to tropical: 23 – 28oC in summer and 18 – 20 oC in the winter. Alocasia grows best in rich, humusy and slightly acidic soils. It likes diffuse, not too intensive light, so should be kept away from direct sunlight. |

Clethra alnifolia (Summersweet, Sweet pepperbush) is a deciduous shrub native to eastern United States, where it is found in wetlands area, swamps, and alongside the streams and rivers. It achieves the height of 1,50 -1,80 m, and forms numerous white flowers held in racemes up to 15 cm long. The shrub blooms from July till September, and the flowers have a sweet-spicy fragrances. Clethra alnifolia prefers acidic, moist and well-drained soils, and grows well in full sun to part shade. |
